To My First Swap! Thats right folks, I have been thinking of hosting a swap for some time now. Last year I received a number of invitations to participate in a Recipe Exchange... Something along the lines of trading emails and recipes in those emails and at the end I would receive 20+ recipes... For some reason or another this never materialized. At least not for me. I did not receive anything back... Oh well no hard feelings. However, it got me thinking that this would be a great idea for a swap.
So howza about us Swapping Recipes and yarn, and patterns and a gadgets for our kitchen?
My thoughts around this were to Host a Swap where participants would be paired up and the identity of the partners would not be a secret. This way, each of us can really get to know our partners and there preferences. This is the way that Lynne runs her swaps and its great because you get to develop long lasting blog relationships!
The Rules:
Each Participant will be required to send their partner the following:
- 2 Tried and True Handwritten Recipes or Favorite Recipes in any category (Recipes must be handwritten on 3x5 Index cards)
- A Favored Kitchen Gadget that no Kitchen should be without!
- A Knitting Pattern and Yarn for a Kitchen item i.e., Tea Cozy, Dishcloth, A Mug/French Press Jacket, A kitchen Towel, a Pot Holder, or Oven Mitt --There are tons of ideas on the net and on Ravelry. Lisa's YarnPlay at Home has good ideas too! Oh and of course there is always Martha who I am sure has an entire staff dedicated to coming up with "Good Things for your Home"
Anything else is up to you! There are so many fun ideas that come to mind for a kitchen themed swap... like recipe books or gadgets to store your recipes... Vintage Items and Vintage Kitchen Themes! Or perhaps the Ultra Modern Kitchen:) For the over achievers in the group you can knit one of the items and send a pattern for another.... Of course there are other needle arts that could be included such as Embroidery on a Flowersack or Crochet. Handcrafted is the overarching theme. So lets be creative:)
The Dollar Limit---How about around the $25.00 range. Postage should not count.
This is my Recipe Box:
Its a little empty --see:
I also have this cute little box... thats not to full either:
So you see my alterior motive he he.... I've put dear old mom to work on writing down our family recipes.... But that may take a while:)
So are you inn? Want to play? If your answer is YES! then send me an email purlsjustwannahavefun at gmail dot com or leave me a comment here with a good email address so that I can reach you and send you a questionnaire.
I could work on randomly matching folks up over the weekend and possibly next week depending on the response rate. We could then officially open the door on April Fools Day... I think thats kind of funny. All packages should be maled out by May 31st so that we all received our goodies the first week of June.
This is my first time doing this sort of thing and I should be able to pull it off considering the long list of swaps I've participated in:)
OH and SERIOUS Participants only Please! We want to play nice:)
I will leave this up until Friday afternoon -- shall we say 3:00 p.m. PST or when we hit 30 participants. Depending on the response rate I may leave this up a little longer we shall see. Oh and I will be creating another website for the swap so that we can all share and get to know one another. More on this later along with a link.
Anyone can participate so lets see what happens.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!

Sounds fun - count me in!

I would love to participate! I've already chosen the recipes I'll send, I think--that is, unless my partner has preferences or allergies or something.
So excited! I'm sure you'll be a wonderful swap Mama. :)

I want to join just because you are hosting, I know it will be delightful! And what a fun and different idea. Handwritten recipes - swoon - handwritten anything is such a lost art. Yay!

I want to join because you were the first person to include me on a list of blogs to read and I so appreciate it still to this day. You are such a nice person, Marisol, and this sounds like a fun swap!
